New Hampshire Breastfeeding Task Force

NEW HAMPSHIRE BREASTFEEDING TASK FORCE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The NH Breastfeeding Task Force includes a 37 member multidisciplinary team with representation of all ten counties in the state.
  • 2009 Update - "A Breastfeeding-Friendly Approach to Depression in New Mothers - A Curriculum and Resource Guide for Health Care Providers"
  • Developed & distributed educational pamphlet entitled: "Safe Sleep for You and Your Baby - A Guide for Breastfeeding Families: 2007 (2007)
  • A Breastfeeding Friendly Approach to Depression in New Mothers - A Curriculum & Resource Guide for Health Care Providers (2007)
  • Developed and distributed educational pamphlet entitled: "Pumping for Preemies" (2006)
  • Developed and distributed an educational pamphlet entitled: The Pacifier Decision: A Guide For Parents to assist parents in making an informed decision regarding pacifier use for their breastfed baby. (May 02, Updated 2006)
  • Offered an information training on Worksite Support for the Breastfeeding Employee: A Guide for Business with invitations sent to 700 New Hampshire Businesses. An informational packet was developed for NH Businesses and is available through the Department of Health and Human Services. (Aug 00)
  • Task Force members attended a breastfeeding conference by Dr. Lennart Righard on Optimal Birth And Successful Breastfeeding: Refining Our Practice and provided accommodations and a hospitality dinner for this world-renowned speaker (Sep 99).
  • Designed and distributed a NH Breastfeeding Promotion poster and postcards to increase the visual imagery of breastfeeding in our state.
  • Annual presentation of a NH State Breastfeeding Award to hospitals/individuals for recognition of accomplishments in promotion and support of breastfeeding.
  • Granting of a Breastfeeding Friendly Award to selected NH practitioners who had demonstrated exceptional support of breastfeeding in their practice and in the media.
  • Task Force members assisted in the language of a Breastfeeding Bill (HB 441) and provided testimony to House and Senate legislators in support of the bill. HB 441 was signed into law by Governor Jeanne Shaheen on June 10, 1999.
  • Developed Breastfeeding Proclamation for World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1997 & 2000) signed by Governor Jeanne Shaheen.
  • Designed and distributed an educational brochure entitled: A Guide for Breastfeeding in the Early Weeks (Sep 98) for breastfeeding mothers.
  • Publication and distribution of NH Breastfeeding Resource Guide (Aug 97). Updated every two years.
  • Established NH Breastfeeding Task Force Statement (Apr 97).
